I’m Justin! I am a third-year transfer student studying cognitive science specializing in design & interaction. Prior to this program, I had very little experience with Illustrator and Figma, but I have taken a class for a semester in Photoshop in community college. My goal was to improve the limited design industry skills that I had and be around creative individuals to develop my fundamental knowledge of design. In my free time, I love exploring modern fashion, dancing, r&b/rap music, and going on adventures with my friends!

A1: Logo

Programs Used: Illustrator

This snake logo idea was created based on a snake tattoo in which I wanted to create a monochromatic and minimal logo based on twin snakes found in Greek mythology.

<aside> <img src="/icons/light-bulb_yellow.svg" alt="/icons/light-bulb_yellow.svg" width="40px" /> Looking back: I should have included fewer scales because if the logo were smaller, the snake scales would look too compact and squished together, making it look messy. I think that making differentiations and having specific details between both snakes would have contributed to the idea of “twin snakes” better than making the logo primarily monochromatic.

A2: UI Screens

Programs Used: Figma

I expanded off the snake logo from the previous assignment and created this opening page UI layout for an application. The idea for this app was a spin-off of a “dating app “ and went for a toned-down green color scheme to go for a relaxed feeling where new beginnings can spark.

The bottom left scales on the second UI screen should be flipped horizontally so that they can flow into the third screen more effectively.

A3: Social Media Graphic (Poster)

Finalized Version (With Color Grading)

Alternative Version (Without Color Grading)

Alternative Version (Without Color Grading)

Programs Used: Photoshop This is a social media poster for a fake concert lineup “Moon Goddess Festival” incorporating a futuristic, retro theme alongside wire figures and grid waves.

<aside> 💡 Looking back: I think that making a dynamic poster title would have made the graphic pop out more compared to finalized title font. The alignment of the location and date does not sit comfortably on the graphic because of its spacing from the woman in the middle. Other than that, I was really proud of how this poster turned out.
